I’m reading a new huge and wonderful biography on Leon Russell (which includes some of Leon’s writings from a memoir he never finished). About this song it says that about the 2:00 minute mark Leon’s piano playing just explodes into grandeur and when he finished the take he fell off of his stool haha. Phil Spector was so impressed with that beautiful climax that he quickly whipped off a bonus check for Leon in appreciation.
